and is dedicated to my love of building with
bricks.
It all began in 1976 when my parents brought home my first Lego set: #585 Police Headquarters which you can see below. This set is so old that the little men don't even have articulated arms and legs yet and their faces are blank. Nevertheless, I was hooked and I amassed quite a collection of mostly Space sets and then I fell into my "Dark Ages" (an adult Lego community term which means that you no longer felt that building with Lego bricks was "cool").

About fifteen years later, while browsing the shelves of a local toy consignment shop, I saw that they sold bags of used Lego at a good price. I bought several and my love for the brick bloomed again! Now I stop by the store so often that all the employees know me by name!
As the years have passed my collection has greatly expanded (it's great to be an adult with a "child's" hobby because you can almost always buy what you want, when you want!). On the internet I discovered the international community of Lugnet as well as a local club, Baylug (Bay Area Lego Users Group), where I met other adult fans of Lego like myself.
How much has my collection grown? Check out my Lego room!
On the left is my work table and display shelves. On the right, the hanging doors for the closet have been removed and the space is filled with lots of IRIS shelving, probably the best modular storage system for Lego collectors.

Odds & Ends

This page is a mini-potpourri of all the previous sections. There's quite a wonky mix of things here, everything from landing gear designs, robots, wizards and feelthy bricks!
The Refocusing of Lego by Lou Zucaro
This page contains one of the most brilliantly composed posts on the future of the Lego company that I've ever read. I've presented it here along with some photographs to illustrate the author's many very intelligent points. Unfortunately, his requests were never fulfulled, but his words are a very nice evocation of what could have been.

Links to Cool Stuff
(or at least I think so)
![]()
Nobody ever checks these out, but I can't blame ya! I never check 'em out on other peoples websites, but hey, if you're really bored, why not?! If you're a Lego fan, the first six links are a must. The others will give you an inkling of my slightly twisted tastes!
- The Lego Users Group Network is simply the best online database for Lego fans. You can search by for sets number or name, or browse by theme. Top stories, games, and access to the web-based newsgroups is also available. A small membership gets you some cool stuff like your own corner of the internet to proclaim your love of Lego.
- Fibblesnork LEGO Guide This excellent site, created by Todd Lehman, is his personal guide to a few of the many Lego themes. Since it doesn't cover the entire Lego product range, it is able to provide more detailed information and features, such as rating the sets according to such factors as functionality and color scheme. The site also provides a way to search for sets of a certain kind (castle, boat, base) so that you can find out exactly which castle you picked up at that garage sale.
- BAYLUG is a San Francisco Bay Area club of adult Lego fans of which I'm a member. This site, created and maintained by David K. Z. Harris provides basic information about our club including when the next meeting is and where, pictures from our previous meetings and links to members' webpages. If you live in the Bay Area and are a Lego fan, stop by and see us. The more the merrier!
- Brickshelf created and run by Kevin M. Loch, contains a massive database of photographs of other Lego fans' creations. The variation and complexity of these offerings is often staggering. I've never seen a more incredible and varied selection of real and virtual Lego models. You could browse for weeks!
- LEGO Instructions and Catalog scans This extension of Brickshelf is another indispensable resource for Lego fans. It is an exhaustive list of catalog scans and instructions for the majority of Lego sets ever created, something the Lego group doesn't even have! For someone like me who often buys sets that are used, this site provides scans of the original instructions so that I can verify if the set I bought is complete, and if not, what pieces are needed.
- BrickLink is THE one-stop online shopping mall for Lego fans. You will not find a wider selection of Lego parts and sets anywhere. The shops are run by people around the world, giving you access to pieces that were never sold in the States. Careful, you might spend your rent if you're not careful!
- Despair, Inc. is quite simply one of the funniest websites I've ever come across. They have the most awesome workplace propaganda posters I've ever seen. If you liked the movie "Office Space", the content of this site will be right up your alley.
- Odd Todd is one man's musings about the ups and downs of being unemployed. I can't see how someone talented as Todd could remain unemployed for so long because the animated shorts that he creates are freakin' hilarious (and well worth the wait to download!). I check his site about once a week just for the film reviews which are also very funny.
- The Micronauts Homepage is the coolest webpage for one of the snazziest toys from my childhood other than Lego bricks. Another exhaustive database with tips for cleaning and preservation, and even a marketplace where you can buy the Baron Karza you never had. Take a walk down nostalgia lane!
Contact me, I'd love to hear from you!
